Traveling through Termini Station just got a little more appetizing.

Generally speaking, train stations aren’t known for being centers of culinary excellence.  And Rome’s Termini is not generally a place one chooses voluntarily to linger for any length of time.  However, Rome’s new ‘food hall’-style market, the Mercato Centrale Roma, aims to challenge your notion of train station food, and has created a beautiful, inviting place for travelers–or anyone in the area–to spend some time.

Based on the successful formula of the recently revamped Mercato Centrale in Florence, the Rome Central Market also features artisans from all over Italy, and features local food artisans from both Rome and the Lazio region.

The market/food hall is located right at Termini Station, in via Giolitti 36.  With its stylish interior and a vast selection of appetizing foods that can either be eaten on site, or made to go for the train ride, it will be hard not to alter my travel plans to spend more time at Termini Station.
